How To Use A Zero Water Filter In 2022

The Zero Water filter uses 5-stage filtration to remove a wide range of contaminants from water.

The impurities that the Water filter removes from water include rust, sediment, fluorine, chlorine, nitrites, nitrates, lead, cyanide, asbestos, and zinc, among others.

In this guide, we will be exploring various aspects of Zero Water filter usage.

We will start with the Water filter installation/assembly.

Then we will turn to Zero Water filter day to day usage. We will also deal with Zero Water filter maintenance.

Zero Water filter installation/assembly

Firstly, you need to unpack the Zero Water filter system.

Secondly, you need to wash the Water filter components (except the cartridge) using a soft sponge and mild dishwashing soap. Then ensure that you rinse the said components properly, before proceeding.

Thirdly, you need to tighten the silicone ring against the filter. The silicon ring and the filter have threads. Yours is to align the silicone ring’s threads to those of the filter.

Then tighten them (using your hands) until you get a snug fit. Once you have tightened the silicon ring against the filter, you can proceed to fix the filter, and also tighten it until it is firmly in place.

The fourth step entails putting the Water filter reservoir into the pitcher. So you identify the space, within the pitcher, where the reservoir is supposed to go. Then you position it there.

The fifth step entails fixing the Zero Water filter lid. So you just place the lid on top of the pitcher, then press it until it is tightly in place.

The sixth step is that of filling the Zero water filter with water. Then discard this first water.

Whereas the Water filter cartridges come pre-washed (and therefore do not require flushing, soaking, or rinsing), it is still ideal to discard the first water. Then you can start consuming the water from the filter.

You need to immerse the TDS meter that the Zero Water filter comes with into the water you obtain from it. If the first reading (from the TDS meter) is not 000, it means that you didn’t do the assembly/installation properly.

You would therefore need to repeat it. Then ensure that the silicone ring is properly tightened, so that water drops don’t form between it and the reservoir.

Day To Day Usage

Using a Zero Water filter on a day-to-day basis simply entails filling it with water, waiting for the water to be filtered, then pouring the filtered water onto a glass for consumption.

Filling the Water filter is a matter of identifying the opening where water is supposed to be poured in.

Then you align that opening with the container from which you will be obtaining the water.

You open the lid, then hold down the container from which you are obtaining the water at an angle that allows the water to pour into the Zero Water pitcher.

Because it uses a 5-stage filtration technology, the Zero Water filter is fairly slow.

You may therefore need to wait for a while for the water to be filtered. It can take several seconds to fill a glass with water from the Water filter.

Obtaining the water from the filter entails identifying the opening where filtered water is supposed to be poured out from the Zero Water pitcher. Then you align that opening with the glass (or whichever other container) you are using to tap water from the pitcher.

Thereafter you hold the pitcher at an angle that allows the filtered water to come out. Just ensure that unfiltered water from the upper chamber doesn’t drip out while you are pouring out filtered water from the pitcher.

You can then immerse the TDS meter with which the Zero Water pitcher comes into the filtered water glass, to gauge the extent to which the water is actually being filtered.

 

Maintenance

One key aspect of Zero Water filter maintenance is that of figuring out when to replace the filter cartridge.

The most reliable and straightforward way to figure out when to replace the Zero Water filter cartridge is through the TDS meter reading.

In this regard, the moment the TDS meter reading gets to 006, it is time to replace the Water filter cartridge.

Other indications that your Zero Water filter cartridge requires to be changed include the water having an acidic taste, or the water starting to taste like a lemon.

Ideally, though, you shouldn’t wait for the Water filter to reach the stage where it starts giving water with an acid taste or fishy smell.

You should replace the filter cartridge earlier: like the moment the TDS meter reading reaches 006.

 

How To Change Zero Water Filter

Another key aspect of Zero Water filter maintenance is that of actually replacing the filter cartridge.

This entails first opening the Zero Water pitcher lid. Then you remove the reservoir, as well as the blue protective cap.

Thereafter, you fix the new filter cartridge onto the reservoir’s bottom part (from below).

You then twist the new cartridge, until it is tightly in place/until it seals properly.

You thereafter replace the reservoir with the pitcher.

After replacing the reservoir with the pitcher, you can proceed to put the lid back on.

Then press it until it fits snugly. You can then fill the pitcher with water for filtration.

While flushing or rinsing is not necessary for the Water filter cartridges (which come pre-soaked and pre-rinsed), it is still a good idea to discard the first water you filter with a new cartridge.

You can then fill it with water that undergoes filtration for consumption.

 

Yet another key aspect of Zero Water filter maintenance is that of removing air pockets.

When your Water filter has air pockets, it becomes very slow. Sometimes, it becomes impossible to obtain filtered water from it, on account of these air pockets.

To remove the air pockets, you first need to open the Zero Water pitcher lid.

Then lift the reservoir and filter out of the pitcher. Gently tap the filter several times (like four times), in order to break up the air pockets.

Alternatively, give the filter several (like four) gentle squeezes, in order to break up the air pockets.

Then put the reservoir and filter back into the Zero Water pitcher. After that, put the filter lid back, and press it to ensure it is tightly in place.

Now fill the pitcher with water. Wait for the water to be filtered. Pour out the filtered water, and you will notice that it pours out faster, if you have successfully removed the air pockets in the filter.
